In reaction to the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan’s decision to end the B.ed (01 year) program, Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) took the initiative to introduce the B.ed (1.5 years) program in 2016. The initiative is in line with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) guidelines. Specifically, The course aims to prepare aspiring teachers with the necessary professional and pedagogical knowledge, skills, and dispositions to address the challenges that prevail in the field of education. With time, the focus of the program has shifted to hands-on practical learning experiences aimed at bridging the gap that exists between theoretical knowledge and real classroom scenarios.

Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for admission into the B.ed 1.5-year program, the student must possess a minimum of 16 years of education in academic disciplines other than Education, such as MA Education or MEd. Additionally, This includes degrees like MA/MSc/BS (04 Years) with at least a second division or its equivalent. In other words, This education could be in any subject like BS mathematics, MSc English, MA Urdu, etc… Specifically, Any individual who has completed 16 years of education in any field is eligible for B.ed 1.5 year admission.

Selection Process For B.Ed 1.5 Year Program:

Admission to the B.Ed 1.5 Year program is offered by AIOU on an open-merit basis. In other words, Applicants who meet the eligibility criteria will be granted admission without discrimination. Additionally, A student who has degrees like MA/MSc/BS (04 Years) with at least a second division or its equivalent can take the admission.

Duration Of The B.Ed 1.5 Year Program At AIOU:

The B.Ed 1.5 Year program spans over three semesters, equivalent to 18 months. However, Students can complete the degree within a maximum of three years. Which is the requirement from the date of admission.

Medium Of Instruction:

The B.Ed 1.5 Year program delivers instruction in both English and Urdu. Catering to the diverse linguistic needs of the students.

Teaching Methodology:

The program follows an Open and Distance Learning (ODL) approach supplemented with online teaching methods. However, this flexible learning environment enables students to access course materials and participate in interactive sessions from anywhere, at any time.

A total of 54 credit hours are requir to complete the B.Ed 1.5 Year program, distributed across the three semesters.
